Our Mission
Our mission is simple here at Mileshiggins Farm. Sustainable farming for a sustainable future. We strive to supply the very best of local Herefordshire produce farmed in a sustainable way to ensure the highest welfare standards and to secure the future of our British Farms.
Sustainable Family Farms
Small farms like ours rely on their permanent pasture to provide all the grass to feed our livestock in order to produce top quality food, but also keep providing good quality grass year after year. So we need to look after the pasture land in order to be sustainable for future generations. We manage the pastures by using rotational grazing and applying farm yard manure.
Our farm has many well-established hedgerows in order for birds and smaller bugs to thrive. During the cold winter months our sheep shelter behind hedges out of the wind so we need to look after them. We also make sure our stream is kept clean and clear as it's a vital wildlife and livestock water source. British farmers do an amazing job of looking after our precious countryside and that's what we do here.
Farms and the Community
Farms are vital to the local community by buying local goods and employing local people. We buy animal feed from a local family run business, Whistance Feeds which is 3 miles from our farm. We also use a small, family run abattoir who operate at the highest welfare standards to ensure a stress free environment. We also hire local help at busy times when we need too such as hay making. Using local businesses and selling to local people is key to any farm. We buy our straw from local farms and use local contractors for our shearing and sheep scanning. Its crucial that our farm is sustainable in the community in order to produce great quality meat but also be a secure future for the next generation.
